  • Histology is the study of tissues!

What is a tissue?

  • A tissue is a group of similar cells working together to perform a common function.

There are 4 types of tissue:

1) Connective Tissue

  • Protects and supports the body and its organs.
  • Binds things together.
  • Stores energy reserves.
  • Provides Immunity.

2) Epithelial Tissue

  • Covers body surfaces and lines body cavities and organs.
  • Forms glands.

3) Muscular Tissue

  • Generates the force needed for movement.
  • Are the only cells in the body that contract really well.
  • Help maintain heat.

4) Nervous Tissue

  • Detects internal and external changes.
  • Inititate and transmits impulses to coordinate body activities to maintain homeostasis.
