Types of Immunity

Okay, any particular immunity can be either natural or artificial, and active or passive. This means there are 4 types of immunity.

Let's first define what each of those mean. Then we can combine them to show the four types of immunity.

  • Natural-examples of natural immunity include anitbodies being passed from the mother to the child or when our bodies make antibodies.
  • Artificial-this kind of immunity comes into play when you get your vaccinations (SHOTS!)at the doctor's office.
  • Active-this kind of immunity is when your body has to work to make anitbodies.
  • Passive-this kind of immunity is when your body doens't have to work to make its own antibodies.

Okay, so with those terms in mind, now we can see the four types of immunity possible.

 Active  Passive
 Natural  NA=natural active  NP=natural passive
 Artificial  AA=artificial active  AP=artificial passive
