pH

  • pH is a measure of the concentration [ ] of hydrogen (H+) ions in a solution.
  • pH is measured on a scale of 1 to 14.
  • A  pH of 7, meaning equal [ ] of hydrogen and hydroxide ions, is considered to be neutral.
  • A pH greater than 7, meaning the solution has a lower [ ] of hydrogen ions than it does hydroxide ions, is considered to be basic.
  • A pH less than 7, meaning the solution has a higher [ ] of hydrogen ions than it does hydroxide ions, is considered to be acidic.
